Stigmatochromis modestus is a cichlid which can be found all around the lake in rocky environments. This species is living in caves between the rocks. These examples were caught in the neighbourhood of Likoma Island. In the lake the males of these species can grow to 15 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 18 cm, females grow to about 14 cm. Stigmatochromis modestus is a species which you can best keep with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of hiding places. These are inhabitants you can also keep together with all kinds of species, also mbunas, however they will eat a lot of young fish. In the lake they are mainly feeding themselves with young mbunas. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix. |
